Sonoma and Russian River Valley, California

What a beautiful day – clear blue skies, warm sun and perfect temperatures for exploring wine country! The grape plants are just budding in the area, roses are in full bloom everywhere and the hillsides are still green from the winter rains. Deedee now stands for “Designated Driver” as we toured Sonoma County. As Linda expanded her extensive knowledge of reds and whites, Deedee limited her intake. We left Santa Rosa in the morning and drove toward Geyserville, stopping at Clos du Bois for about two hours of tasting and education. While the sommelier explained each wine, production, and the differences between French and American oak barrels to Linda, Deedee sipped and tried to taste the hint of blueberry or vanilla (problems she never encounters with Two Buck Chuck). We continued to several wineries in the Healdsburg area before stopping for lunch and a bit of the bubbly at Korbel. We learned that Korbel can call it champagne, despite the efforts of the French to monopolize that word. We drove to the town of Sebastopol for homemade ice cream and time to explore the various art galleries and shops in the town. We arrived back at our hotel and decided to carry-in dinner and relax in front of the television, before we head to San Francisco.

T minus 5 and counting (til sailing)

For Dee Dee's friends and family. She arrived safely and was thrilled to see the Captain already warming her bed. She will have a sound nite's sleep with his help. Linda is back to normal playing with her camera to get THE perfect shot. Tomorrow we explore what Sonoma County has to offer in liquid form.

Apple Blossum Parade

Sebastopol is the home of the Gravenstein Apple and hence the annual Apple Blossum Festival and Parade. Linda's daughter, Erin, was part of the parade playing with her African drum with her drum group.

The ONE day it was warmer on the west coast then Chicago, Linda took advantage of the deck to catch a few rays.

Here we go AGAIN!

DeeDee was a little disturbed that her suitcases were gathering dust in the garage. Just to make her happy we had to take off again for another horizon. Unfortunately Jane couldn't join us this time. So here we go again...North to Alaska.

Linda arrived in California today to spend some quality time with Erin and see her drum group perform in the Sebastopol Apple Blossum Parade on Saturday. DeeDee will arrive next week and the Travelin' Trio minus 1 will explore and indulge at the local wineries and breweries in Sonoma County, then spend a couple of days in San Francisco before boarding the ship on May 2.

Dont' know if the 2 of us can keep this up with such a high level of quality as was completed on the previous cruise but we'll give it a try.
