Thursday/Friday....City by the Bay

If you‘re going to San Francisco be sure to wear some flowers in your hair…Also carry an umbrella…a credit card...and wear comfy shoes. And of course with the swine flu pandemic a face mask isn’t such a bad idea either. So after 2 days in SF we have needed all of the above.
Thursday was weather perfect as we headed down the coast from Santa Rosa to SF. Lots of beautiful sites along Highway 1… Muir Woods and Beach. Pretty scenery, flora and fauna. Arrived in SF in time to get to the hotel and head off to our evening tour of Alcatraz. What a place!?! Now 25 years after closing it is still an imposing and scary “rock”. By the time we finished the tour and dinner we were all too tired and sore to even think about the blog. A quick drink (or 2) and off to bed. What a way to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Erin’s birth for mother and daughter.
Friday we awoke (late) refreshed and eager to explore. After breakfast/brunch we booked a 3.5 (turned into 5) hour city tour of SF highlights. A good thing since none of us had ever been formally introduced to the city. Our tour took us to Fisherman’s Wharf, the financial district, city hall and downtown, mission district, Castro district, Chinatown, twin peaks and Golden Gate Bridge and Park. A looooong day but happily we were in a bus for most of this rainy day.
After a quick ‘happy hour” in our room, we headed back to Fisherman’s Wharf for a fabulous seafood dinner.
Young Erin was to be our guest blogger but this ‘kitty’ just couldn’t keep up with the ’cougars.’
